Data Culture: Collection, Monitoring, and Analysis
Using Looker Studio (formerly known as “Google Data Studio”), I built a data dashboard for collecting, sharing, and monitoring school-wide data with my staff and leadership team. The dashboard is interactive and allowed for my staff to filter and drill down to specific data according to date, grade, content area, homeroom, etc. This helped us to cultivate a true data driven culture at our school, as we were able analyze and use real-time, accurate data to inform our core work.
Social & Emotional Learning: Compass Circle Certification
In 2021, I became a certified Valor Compass Circle facilitator. Compass Circle is the heart of our school’s social and emotional learning approach. Students and staff meet weekly within their small community groups (circles) throughout the school year to support themselves and each other in their personal development.
The Compass model is grounded in the foundational elements of being a human: mind, body, heart and spirit. “Working the Compass” means that we are intentionally developing key disciplines, habits and mindsets that support excellence in mind, body, heart and spirit.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Below is a scope & sequence outline for staff professional development, as well as an asynchronous workshop centered on culturally relevant pedagogy.
In-the-Moment Feedback & Real-time Coaching
In this video, I am real-time coaching the Dean of School Culture while she is providing real-time coaching to a teacher.
The following protocol was used:
1. Identify the teacher to observe with the Coach.
ASK: Who do you need to co-observe with today?
2. Orient on the teacher's current action step or area of refinement.
ASK: What is this teacher currently working on?
3. Identify how the Coach will cue the teacher.
ASK: What is the teacher's preferred method of in-the-moment coaching?
4. Coach in layers using Criteria for Success for In the Moment Coaching.
DO: Principal observes and coaches the Coach based upon the Criteria for Success below.
Criteria for Success
Coach uses the right mode of real time coaching — Least Invasive.
Teacher and coach are clear on the action steps — it was either previously communicated or communicated clearly in the moment.
Coach is positioned in the best spot that allows the teacher to easily see/hear feedback cues.
Coach coaches on one thing and does not confuse teacher.
Coach jumps in as soon as the problem emerges.
Coach is insistent — doesn't stop coaching until teacher is doing it independently.
Coach becomes more invasive (likely models) if the teacher is not meeting the action step.
Coach positively affirms when the action step is met.
Leadership Coaching
In this video, I facilitate one-to-one coaching for the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. I use a modified version of Uncommon Schools’ Observation and Feedback Protocol, also known as “See It, Name It, Do It.” I am coaching the leader on her use of this same protocol with teachers.
Classroom Management: Routines, Structure, and Joy
This video captures a pivotal moment from my third year of teaching in 2013, showcasing the transformative power of our daily Morning Meeting routine for 5th grade scholars. The sequence began with students entering the classroom to our energizing 5th grade chant, as I personally greeted each one at the threshold. Scholars then seamlessly transitioned to their seats, enjoying breakfast while engaging in a focused "Do Now" activity. After 10 minutes, we reconvened on the carpet, resuming our chant before diving into our Morning Meeting. This crucial part of our day served multiple purposes: it set a positive tone, strengthened our classroom community, and infused our learning environment with joy and connection. By establishing this consistent, engaging routine, I created a foundation for academic success and social-emotional growth throughout the school day. Today, a decade later, I remain a firm believer in the power of starting each day with connection, joy, and purpose – a philosophy that continues to shape my approach to education and leadership.

Data Driven Instruction
In this video, I facilitate one-to-one coaching for the Director of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI). I use a self-created Data Deep Dive (D3) Protocol to unpack student assessment data and determine next steps for the DCI and teachers. I am coaching the leader on her use of this same protocol with teachers.

Professional Development
These artifacts showcase my expertise in designing and implementing comprehensive professional development programs for educational leaders. The first document is a detailed scope and sequence for Assistant Principal professional development throughout the 2023-2024 school year. It outlines a carefully structured series of monthly sessions, each with specific objectives, target audiences, and key topics ranging from adaptive coaching to data analysis. The second artifact is an example of one such session I planned and facilitated, demonstrating how I translate the broader plan into actionable, engaging professional learning experiences. This October 25th session for Assistant Principals and Instructional Coaches includes a variety of activities focused on data deep dives, lesson internalization, and practice clinics, illustrating my ability to create meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities that directly impact instructional leadership.
